Khaki Curtains

I bought some new curtains with some of my birthday money for the breakfast nook in our kitchen yesterday at Target. I must say, I absolutely love them. And by golly, I put them up myself. :) I think it looks so much cozier now. :)

Sickness and a Crown

In the wee hours of Friday morning, Jordan woke up with a temperature. I was hoping all would be well by the time I got around for work, but unfortunately, Carter, Jordan, and I all felt awful, with full blown colds. I have been fighting a cold for a week now, with my nose running non-stop. And waking up on Friday, I felt so much pressure and congestion, I knew I couldn't make it through a day at work.


Nik has actually missed the past three Fridays at work due to his own sickness, Jordan being flu sick, and missing for youth stuff at church. And next Friday he is taking the youth kids to Dare 2 Share in Columbus, Ohio. My point is, he thought it would be unwise to miss yet another Friday from work, and I agreed. So what do you do, but call you mother to the rescue. Thankfully she had nothing else going on yesterday and she came right in to help out. We all went to the doctor and it turned out Jordan had bronchiolitis, Carter had Strep and ear infections, and I had a sinus infection. So we all got much needed medicine and are doing better. Although last night was rough. The boys are both majorly coughing now and Carter has been waking up with goopy eyes, which terrifies him to no end. But during the day today, the boys were literally bouncing off the walls. I don't know what they put in that medicine, but they were beyond hyper, which I guess is better than whining and crying from being sick.

Also, I happened to catch Miss America 2009 on TLC tonight right around when they had picked the top 12. Miss Indiana was in the running and they were doing talent. She sang a well known song called Via Dolorosa. Here is a link of Sandi Patti singing it.

Pre-School Hopeful

So I just finished filling out a pre-school form for Carter. There are only 2 public pre-schools in Fort Wayne available for him to attend. The other pre-schools in the area are either private (which we would have to pay for) or else they are Title 1 schools, which means they are for low-income families.

The good news is that even though there are only 2 pre-school choices, they are both within a 10 minute drive from our house.

The bad news is that since these 2 schools are both magnet schools, they always get a large number of applications each year, which makes space limited. So therefore, they have a public lottery, which will be held on March 27th. So if Carter's name doesn't get drawn that day, he's out of luck and we will have to skip pre-school I guess. We don't have the money to send him to a private school, but I am not too worried about it. He is a fast learner.

The other thing I am hoping for is that if he is chosen, that he will get morning pre-school and not afternoon. It would make it much easier so that I could take him to school, go to work, and then pick him up on my lunch hour and take him to his babysitters. It will be a lot of running around, but I am more than willing to do it. :)

Here are a couple pics before leaving for work this morning. And guess who gets today off? Nik! It's Martin Luther King Jr. Day and the stock market is closed. It's just not right. Haha... Oh well, I am hoping to get my work done soon today and leave early.

Scissor Happy

So, once again, I have had the urge to cut my hair shorter. Nik keeps praying that I don't shave my head. Don't worry, that won't happen. But to think that I have cut my own hair for the last 10 years is quite an accomplishment. I really do find a weird high chopping off my hair. LOL It's super fun. I do think I am done for a while, or will at least keep it at this length for a while. And yes, in the first picture of the back of my head, I know at the bottom of my hair it needs a hair trimmer, but I don't have one, and I have to work at it to cut it and not my skin. Anywho, tell me what you think. I haven't styled it straight yet, but here are some wavy pics.

It's funny because I used to hate having curly hair, but now with my staightener I have the best of both worlds (yes, I just quoted miley cyrus).

Snow much fun!!

Yesterday we enjoyed ourselves out in the snow. Grandpa Burkhardt even got into the action with being the ultimate sled pusher. We also celebrated Savannah's birthday with family over the weekend too. She wanted to tell everyone thank you for the wonderful blog comments and the great cards and moola. She enjoyed her shopping spree.

Double Digits

Today is Savannah's 10th birthday!! We can't wait to see her tomorrow. I am in the midst of painting her room lavender. (she knows this already)

I think we might take her ice skating on Saturday. She will have to let us know. I do know she wants to spend her christmas/birthday money at the mall. I bet the first place we will go will be Libby Lou. ;)

Healthy and Happy

The boys have been feeling much better the last couple of days. We decided to break out one of their christmas gifts from Uncle Nate. They had a blast with the moon sand even though it was extremely messy. :) I told them we might want to play with it outside next time when its warm outside. But they have been begging me ever since to get it back out. Thanks Uncle Nate! They love it.

On Friday, their new bunk beds came in. They have slept in them for 2 nights now and have done really well. Jordan even does pretty good coming down the ladder by himself. I ordered the beds from Kmart and was a little afraid that they would be junky because they were only $200. But I love them and they look great.

We spent last weekend at Nik's parents' house and Sunday morning when we woke up, Carter and Jordan crawled into bed with us.

Jordan: Can we get up now?

Carter: No. Let's just stay here with our eyes open until our parents get up.


This week the boys have been dealing with the flu and I have been giving them Pedialyte. Carter said to me several times. Can I have some more Delight?

And then today, Nik spent time putting together new bunk beds for the boys. I will post pictures soon. But I have been down here typing and since putting them to bed, they have been jabbering to each other nonstop. Here is part of their conversation.

Jordan: Is it the weekend?

Carter: Today is Monday. Tomorrow we have church and after church it will be Sunday.

Carter: Jordan, what do you feel like doing tomorrow? Do you want to eat cake and open presents?

Jordan: Yes, let's eat cake.

Mommy: BOYS, it's time to be quiet!

Carter: We will in a minute mommy. We are just talking.

Don't read if you have a weak stomach

On Christmas Eve I went to my side of the family in Ohio and and Nik went to Kendallville to spend extra time with his brother Nate. Well, several family members in Kendallville had the flu. And Nate caught it. Christmas night he was throwing up in our basement and then again the next morning. Then all day that day, Nik wasn't feeling well and missed a half day of work. Well, three days later, on Monday of this week, I picked Carter up from the sitters and she said he had had a stomach ache for the last couple hours. I immediately knew we were in for a long evening, and by 7pm, he starting throwing up. And again an hour later. And might I add, he missed the bucket every time. Not fun. The next day he had diarreah. Then on New Year's Eve, everyone seemed better. But by 2am New Year's Day (this morning), Jordan was crying in his bed because of a tummy ache. Well, lets just say his sheets and his floor are a very red color that I have been trying to get out. And he has had horrible diarrhea today. But he seems to be playing and acting happy for now.

Blah... What a crazy couple weeks with the ice storm and all the sickness. But besides all that, we did have a wonderful Christmas and New Years. Spending time with family was awesome. I hope you all had a healthier holiday then we did. But I must say, we have been pretty fortunate becuase sickness hasn't been in our house for a long time. I just am keeping my fingers crossed that I will luck out and stay healthy. Pray for me. :)
